Present Roles

MEND on July 6th 2009 (4 day a week basis from March 1):

MEND stands for Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it.  Up to now the organisation has focused on obesity in children, but has now begun to consider obesity in adults and the period surrounding childbirth, which is where my involvement is.  MEND Mothers also hopes to cover up to one year after birth-getting mum back into shape and focusing on breast feeding, weaning and parenting support.
I have been extensively research the area, including a literature search, following the development of NICE guidance in this area and working with experts in the area to develop the programme
I have helped to develop a facilitated self help adult healthy lifestyle programme, partnering with change4life and the Fitness Industry Association.
As part of a programme for weight loss in adults, I have developed a carbohydrate quality calculator, designed to identify the best kind of carbohydrates to base meals around, especially when some form of insulin resistance is present
I am also hoping to do a PhD through this work.
